Where we are now
A purpose of the trust deed and a line in every strategy document, with no route, no partners named to it and no work done. What exists is pockets: this headland, the plantings other groups have made around the town, and the gardens in between.
What it becomes
The Cape as one link in a chain of habitat running south from Ōamaru: a corridor connecting Ōamaru with Orokonui.
Why this matters
A restored headland with nothing to connect to is an island, and islands lose species. This is why the project describes itself as a step along the way rather than an end in itself.
What needs to happen
