South Island goose
A flightless goose of about 18 kg. Drawn, and nowhere decided.

Where we are now
A drawing and a spot. The design is 1.2 m high by 0.8 m wide, two offset on a concrete plinth with no foliage depicted.
What it becomes
A pair on this slope at full size, in cover grown up around them.
Why this matters
It stood about the same height as the little bush moa, which is the sort of thing this trail is for: two animals nobody would put together, the same height on the same hillside.

In deep time
Cnemiornis calcitrans. About a metre long and around 18 kg — the largest goose species, flightless, and otherwise not unlike a Cape Barren goose.
