Extinct penguins
Six penguins through time on a steel wave, at the seaward end of the layout.

Where we are now
A specification and the furthest position towards the sea on the trail, at the DOC lookout: six birds through time as cutouts on a gentle S-bend of steel that rises up and over each one, 5 m long, the tallest 2 m and the smallest the size of a little blue. A single giant penguin is under discussion alongside it.
What it becomes
A wave of six birds where the trail meets the sea, at the furthest point the layout takes it.
Why this matters
It is the deepest subject on the trail and the shallowest at once: the six run back further than anything else here, and the little blue penguin that the smallest of them is scaled to still nests at the harbour edge below this headland.
