Mountain-bike tracks
The network the mountain bikers built — the biggest existing use of the Cape.
Already here8.4 km
Part of the Cape as it is today.
Where we are now
Nearly three times as much track as the walking network, threaded across the same hillside, built and maintained by Oamaru’s mountain bikers over years of voluntary work.
What it becomes
The same network, through restored country — and its builders alongside the planting rather than around it.
Why this matters
This project builds on other people’s work and does not claim it. The mountain bikers were on the Cape long before the trust existed, they turned up to the first big planting day, and the shape of their network is the best single picture of how much voluntary effort this headland has already absorbed.
What needs to happen
1 of 3- Network in place
- Lengths confirmed on the ground
- Planting and track work coordinated between the groups
